On Wednesday, Apple begun selling refurbished M4 Mac mini models on its store, starting at $509 for the base model.This was great, though there was one problem, pointed out by on Thursday: an M2 Mac mini with the same specs would cost $50 more than an M4 model, despite the dated design.Apple has now fixed that pricing problem, cutting refurbished model prices by at least $100.
Before this pricing change, refurbished Mac mini’s were priced as follows: M2 Mac mini with 256GB SSD/8GB memory: $419 M4 Mac mini with 256GB SSD/16GB memory: $509 M2 Mac mini with 256GB SSD/16GB memory: $559 This was a weird pricing structure, given the fact that you’d pay more for dated hardware of the same configuration.On top of that, even if you were okay with dated hardware, you’d only save $90 and lose half the amount of unified memory.Apple values an additional 8GB of unified memory at $200, so saving $90 while getting an older computer didn’t make much sense.
However, as highlighted by Tech God on X, Apple has updated its prices for refurbished Mac minis, slashing prices by around $100: M2 Mac mini with 256GB SSD/8GB memory: $319 M2 Mac mini with 256GB SSD/16GB memory: $459 M4 Mac mini with 256GB SSD/16GB memory: $509 This pricing is far more reasonable, and makes the older Mac mini models a decently favorable deal.It’s hard to go wrong with an Apple Silicon Mac at just over $300.You can check out Apple’s refurbished Mac store here.
