Today was the first day that huge tariffs went into effect for most US imports, but it seems the impact will be short-lived—at least for many.President Trump has just enacted a 90-day pause on the most severe of the tariffs, with China a major exception.As a result, risk to Apple may be lessened, but they certainly aren’t in the clear.
Tariffs for China increase, but most nations get relief in pause Trump just posted the following on Truth Social: Although many businesses are certainly breathing a sigh of relief at the tariff pause, Apple likely isn’t one of them.The company’s dependence on China for its product supply chain is well known.Even as it’s diversified over the years to build more products in places like India and Vietnam, the bulk of Apple manufacturing still happens in China.
As a result, Apple is more vulnerable than most to the impact of an escalating trade war between the US and China.But as with all things tariff-related, there’s so much uncertainty still afoot.I’m sure we’ll hear more before long.
