Poco has for many years concentrated on being a gaming-focused phone brand, but with the F7 Pro and F7 Ultra it is leaning into camera prowess too.The Poco F7 Ultra costs £649 but packs in the Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset you’ll also find in the £799 Samsung Galaxy S25, £899 OnePlus 13 and £1,099 Honor Magic 7 Pro.If you want to get your hands on the most powerful Qualcomm processor, the F7 Ultra looks like the cheapest way to do so yet.The phone packs in a 6.67-inch 2K resolution smooth 120Hz AMOLED screen, triple cameras fronted by a 50MP main lens with optical image stabilisation and a 50MP 2.5x telephoto camera, a large 5,300mAh battery with 120W wired and 50W wired charging speeds, IP68 dust and water resistance and 12GB RAM and 256GB storage.Compare that to the Samsung Galaxy S25, which costs £150 more, and you get a lower resolution 1080p screen, triple cameras but only a 10MP 3x telephoto, paltry 25W wired charging speeds and only 128GB storage.Samsung film high-octane stunts using Galaxy S24 FE Poco says the cameras are versatile enough to allow four different focal lengths to capture portrait shots as well as the telephoto lens coping with macro shots as well as zoom. You also get a 32MP ultra-wide camera with 120 degree field of view.
Poco is also relying on its own AI-powered software to process the photos. If it’s anywhere as good as parent company Xiaomi’s 14 Ultra from last year, I’ll be impressed. The cheaper £499 Poco F7 Pro is no slouch either, running the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, the previous generation of high-end chip you can find in the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra. For these prices, Poco is making itself seriously competitive. This phone also has a 50MP main camera using the same Light Fusion 800 sensor as the F7 Ultra, though the supporting 8MP ultra-wide lens is unlikely to be very good, and there’s no zoom lens.
You also get a similar 6.67-inch OLED and there’s a larger 6,000mAh battery that supports 90W wired charging, along with 12GB RAM and 256GB storage. These are excellent specs for the price, far outstripping what’s on offer on Samsung’s £499 Galaxy A56.Despite the concentration on cameras, Poco still offers these great specs with mobile gamers in mind. Both phones have LiquidCool Technology 4.0, a cooling system that keeps the chipsets at the right temperatures even when pushing that latest round of Call of Duty Mobile hard.Poco may not have made much of a name for itself in the UK but these two latest phones provide intriguing competition for the likes of Samsung and Oppo in the mid-range Android market.
You will struggle to find better value for the asking prices, especially given the £649 Ultra offers the Snapdragon 8 Elite chip at the cheapest price we’ve seen.Trending SUBSCRIBE Invalid emailWe use your sign-up to provide content in ways you've consented to and to improve our understanding of you. This may include adverts from us and 3rd parties based on our understanding.
