Amazon offers the ultimate Ring camera upgrade with best image quality

Keeping an eye on your home when you’re away is always a good idea to keep peace of mind. The best way to do this today is by investing in a decent security camera to place in a suitable place on the outside of your house to watch the comings and goings.Amazon has just announced a new camera as part of its Ring range, the Ring Outdoor Camera Plus.Designed to be used alongside its very popular Ring Doorbell products, the Outdoor Camera Plus costs a penny under £100 at £99.99 while offering 2K video resolution, a wide field of view with the firm’s Low-Light Sight tech, two-way talk functionality and solid weather resistance.Existing outdoor cameras from the brand only support up to 1080p video. The Low-Light Sight technology, according to Amazon, ensures a “clear, colourful view even in near dark conditions”.

This means you can keep an eye on activity outside your home even when the sun goes down, with 24/7 recording available if you pay for the correct Ring subscription. The new camera also promises Ring's “best image quality yet” thanks to that 2K resolution. These cameras work by recording or live-streaming footage to your paired smartphone via the Ring app, letting you see what happened outside your door or on your driveway in the past or view the exact scene whenever you want to.Boosted resolution means things are clearer so you can check exactly what’s going on, or if, in more unfortunate circumstances, you might need to call on the footage to file an insurance claim or contact the police regarding a crime. For less scary situations, it’s also useful to see if the pets back home are behaving and happy if you’ve popped out but want to let them roam around outside.

Amazon says you can mount the camera to most surfaces with the provided kit, and when purchasing you can choose whether to get a battery powered or plug-in model, the former best if you can’t run a cable to a power source. The battery model can be unmounted to recharge when needed.Ring doorbell captures hilarious delivery mishap You also get person and vehicle detection when you have a Ring subscription, so the tech will let you know on your phone when someone walks past or drives by.At the time of writing there’s no solar powered option, but it looks as though that should be an option soon given the cheaper £79.99 Ring Outdoor Camera and pricier £159.99 Outdoor Camera Pro have a solar option, even if they charge more on those RRPs for that function.Notably, the Outdoor Camera Plus is the only model out of the three that has 2K video recording, though the other models could conceivably get the function later down the line.Ring recently updated some of its other existing cameras to support 2K even though they didn’t initially support it.Though Ring’s Doorbell products are very popular, you might not want to drill one to your doorframe.

If that’s the case, the Outdoor Camera Plus could be the right fit to attach to a wall or nearby wooden surface so you can still view who’s at the door. The two-way talk function lets you chat live to whoever’s there, be it your neighbour with that sugar you asked for or a delivery driver asking where to put your parcel. And even though it’s marketed as an outdoor camera, there’s no reason why you can’t use the camera indoors. The removable mount can be placed on the bottom instead of the side to let it freely stand.
