VIEW 2024: Celebrating 25 Years of Excellence

Dr.Maria Elena Gutierrez’s annual ‘must attend’ confab in Turin, Italy has been bringing the industry together for a quarter century, an event where top professionals from across animation, VFX, and games share their latest achievements and future plans… whether in front of an eager audience or a gleaming white bowl of pumpkin risotto; this year’s celebration of all things animated runs next week, October 14-19.
It’s that time again each year when I jet off to that beautiful baroque city of Turin, Italy, visions of agnolotti and stylish, mostly gray clothing filling my head as it always does.

But this year is a bit different – this year marks the VIEW Conference’s 25th anniversary, a quarter century of program director Dr.Maria Elena Gutierrez bringing together top professionals in animation, VFX, games, transmedia, and so many related disciplines, to present their work, share ideas and ideals, and push our industry forward. So many interviews… so much networking… so many speaker dinners… not nearly enough espresso… we should all have such problems.

Taking place October 14-19, the event shines as few other do, an unparalleled annual gathering of leading artists, technologists, academics, and strategists, all innovative leaders helping shape how animated imagery is designed, developed, produced, and displayed. From short film auteurs to directors of the biggest tentpole films, they all come to VIEW with one common purpose – to present their work, their knowledge, their insight for the benefit of others.Though discussions on tools, pipeline, and workflow abound, the show has always been much more focused on the creative minds behind the scenes, who provide a glimpse into not only the how, but the why.

This year’s conference program once again promises attendees an unforgettable experience, filled to the brim with award-winning speakers, a curated in-person program of keynotes, talks, panels, in-depth workshops, and masterclasses.Check out the full program here and register for VIIEW Conference 2024 here.“It is incredibly humbling that so many talented people are joining us for our 25th anniversary event,” said Dr.

Gutierrez.“They honor us by sharing their wisdom, experience, and passion.VIEW Conference has and always will be about people, and we are looking forward to greeting everyone in our warm, inclusive atmosphere.

I can’t wait to celebrate with all our attendees and say, ‘Welcome to Italy!’” Before we look at some of the program highlights, it’s important, as I say about this event each year, to note the significance, and sheer immensity, of knowledge sharing provided by the VIEW Conference platform. It’s worth repeating that animation and VFX-related crafts are mentor-based, as hands-on, practical, and experiential learning are hugely important throughout every artist’s career.Watching and listening to top professionals share their insights and experience, walking through their productions, explaining creative and technical decision-making… it’s priceless.

For 25 years, VIEW’s ultimate value, and foundational strength, has been facilitating such a voluminous and richly programmed educational and informational transfer, expertly themed, curated, and presented. We take it for granted, but we must acknowledge nonetheless that Dr.Gutierrez puts together an incredible program, each and every year, fighting for budget, attendees, and continued relevance, coming out of the pandemic stronger than ever… it’s nothing short of amazing.

We have no idea how she does it, just that she does… and the show’s stellar reputation and must attend status is testimony to that success. This year’s diverse program includes keynotes from Oscar-nominated writer, producer and director Jonathan Nolan, currently executive producer of Amazon MGM Studios and Kilter Films’ Emmy Award-nominated , and Fede Alvarez, director, co-writer, and executive producer of the sci-fi/horror-thriller .Directors presenting their latest work include Alvarez, Kelsey Mann - Pixar and Disney’s ; Chris Sanders - DreamWorks Animation/Universal Pictures’ ; Shannon Tindle - Netflix’s ; and Josh Cooley - Paramount Animation’s VFX, animation and production design pros presenting their work include: Paul Lambert, overall VFX supervisor  Jay Worth, overall VFX supervisor  Swen Gillberg,  Stefen Fangmeier,  Florian Witzel,  Jason Greenblum,  The list of luminaries who will be speaking includes ILM SVP/CCO Rob Bredow, NVIDIA VP/GM of Media & Entertainment Richard Keris, Ramsey Naito, president of Paramount Animation and Nickelodeon Animation, Amy Smeed, head of animation on Disney’s upcoming , Simon Otto, director of Netflix and Locksmith Animation’s upcoming feature, … I could go on and on.
