It retains the brand’s signature large + and - symbols on the front, which are physical volume controls that are easy to crank up when your favourite beat hits.When you turn the volume up, you discover the main downside to the Miniroll.Thanks to the laws of physics, the power of the audio driver inside this diddy speaker means it physically vibrates when you turn it up anywhere above about 20 percent volume.Only at full volume (which is too loud) you can only just hear the physical vibration interfering with the music but it’s shaking like nobody’s business.While it didn’t spoil the music, it’s worth bearing in mind if you want to use the clever rubberised clip on the back to attach the speaker to a bag or bike handlebar to bring your favourite playlists with you.

In fact, UE says the Miniroll is water, dust and drop-proof and it comes with a two-year hardware warranty.It’s great to see a USB-C port on the bottom for recharging, as until recently UE insisted on using the ancient microUSB.A full charge will last you about 12 hours, which is good for a speaker this small.There’s no charger in the box, though.As a fan of the previously-smallest UE speaker the Wonderboom, I was sceptical that the even-smaller Miniroll would work out for me but I’m rather taken with it.
