Apple’s first ever foldable iPhone is expected to launch in fall 2026.The iPhone ‘Fold,’ as I’ve been calling it, will have a book-style design, and one new leak about its inner display shows Apple is doing exactly what I want with that extra screen real estate.Inner display on iPhone Fold is designed to provide an iPad-like experience Weibo leaker Digital Chat Station has previously posted details about the iPhone Fold that were corroborated by others, and today they shared a key detail about the foldable’s inner display.
The iPhone Fold’s large display will reportedly be very iPad-like in its aspect ratio, “almost 4:3.” This aspect ratio, per the post, is meant to help align the iPhone Fold experience to that of using an iPad, building consistency between the two platforms.Such a move is exactly what I’d hoped to see from Apple. As I’ve written previously, my dream is for the iPhone Fold to be essentially two devices in one: a slim, modern, powerful iPhone but also an iPad mini when unfolded Giving the iPhone Fold a display aspect ratio like an iPad, for the sake of greater consistency, makes a lot of sense and gets me very excited for this device.
What to expect from screen sizes Analyst Ming Chi-Kuo previously reported that the foldable would boast a 7.8-inch display when unfolded.Such a screen size is very close to what’s found on a modern iPad mini. It’s near-identical, though, to older iPad mini models that had larger bezels and came with 7.9-inch displays.
Kuo also said the iPhone Fold’s outer display will be 5.5 inches—smaller than iPhones are today, but still fairly large compared to the early days of the iPhone. If Apple can deliver a compelling iPhone-like experience when the device is folded, and make it feel like an iPad when unfolded, then for me at least, it will be much easier to justify the expected ultra-premium cost. Are you interested in the iPhone Fold?
