Your Galaxy S24 is getting a massive free update from Samsung this month

Samsung recently released its newest flagship Android smartphones, the Galaxy S25 and S25 Plus, and the S25 Ultra. These three premium mobiles pack in top tier cameras, great build quality and decent battery life, but one of their main upgrades on previous Samsung phones is their bang up to date software. The S25 series launched with One UI 7, Samsung’s latest version of Android that runs on Android 15, the newest version of the operating system. All Android phone makers design the look, feel and features for their phones on top of Android to offer customers different options when shopping for a new phone. One UI 7 brings a fresh look to Samsung’s phone software, with redesigned icons, new widgets and a slew of artificial intelligence (AI) features that can help you with your writing or messages, conjure up unique images from text prompts, summarise emails for you or even display timely information on your lock screen for you such as live sports scores.Samsung has also simplified the look of your home screen to an extent, and introduced the AI-tinged Now Bar, which attempts to show you relevant information from your lock screen when you tap on it depending on the time of day, your calendar, and other factors.Other new AI tools include AI Select, Writing Assist and Drawing Assist that all aim to use the context of what’s on your screen or in your apps to surface relevant information from the web or help you create new content.Until now, the only way to get One UI 7 was to buy a brand new Galaxy S25 or one of Samsung’s latest mid-range phones, the Galaxy A36 and A56, but that is about to change.

Samsung has confirmed it is pushing out the One UI 7 update to a batch of older Galaxy phones, with the Galaxy S24, S24 Plus and S24 Ultra all set to receive the free software upgrade from Monday, April 7, 2025.Samsung film high-octane stunts using Galaxy S24 FE Samsung said availability “may vary by market”, which seems to imply not all S24 owners will get the update on April 7, but you should still head to your phone’s settings on the day and see if the big download is sitting waiting for you.The Korean tech giant is also pushing out One UI on that date to owners of the foldable Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Z Flip 6, ensuring anyone who bought a flagship Samsung phone from 2024 is finally on Android 15.It won’t be long for owners of even older Samsung phones to wait until they can get One UI on their Galaxy either.“One UI 7 will begin rolling out on April 7, expanding to more Galaxy smartphones and tablets in the following weeks, including the Galaxy S24 series, Galaxy S24 FE, the Galaxy S23 series, Galaxy S23 FE, Galaxy Z Fold6 and Z Flip6, Galaxy Z Fold5 and Z Flip5, the Galaxy Tab S10 series and the Galaxy Tab S9 series,” Samsung said in a press release. This is a little unclear as to when other models will get the update, but it could be in the coming weeks. It’s also not certain that all the mentioned devices will receive the full functionality of One UI as it is on the Galaxy S25, as often Samsung (and other tech firms) will reserve the full suite of tools for its priciest and most capable hardware. But at the very least, One UI 7 will bring a lick of paint to those phones and tablets.
