One noteworthy tidbit, however, had to do with Verizon’s planned fiber expansion.Last fall, the company announced it was acquiring Frontier in a $20 billion transaction. As you would expect with such a huge acquisition, closing the deal is taking some time.
But Verizon’s CEO shared an update with Patel about the current timing forecast, and what that means for Fios’ big upcoming expansion. He says: Until now, Fios has largely been available in the northeast. But with the Frontier acquisition, it’s going to be available much more broadly through the rest of the US.
As you can see from the map above, the Frontier acquisition will bring Fios support to significant new hubs all across the country.Currently Fios is only available in nine states plus Washington D.C., and that’s growing after the acquisition closes to around 30 states. It’s a massive expansion that will hopefully bring all the benefits of Verizon’s current Fios offerings to many more households.
